Gel and acrylic nails are 2 distinctly different methods to achieve the same result. The natural nail is ';roughed'; with a soft file and the extension nail glued on, often with super glue, then the acrylic powder is mixed with the activator liquid and painted from cuticle to tip and then left to harden. Buffed and painted any way you like.

Gel nails are a about the same process except for the fact that the gel does not need an activator liquid to make them harden, air or a UV lamp does the work. The result is the same as once it is hardened they paint up the same. Fills are usually done about every 2 weeks for both and both will have a build up on top of the nail over time, this gets filed down as you go in for fills.

Hope this helps answer your question.
