10 wks pregnant and I want Acrylic nails?

Hi well I'm 10 wks pregnant and I want to go to get acrylic nails and a pedicure but when they do the pedicure they sit you in a massage chair is that safe???? Please I need help ASAP10 wks pregnant and I want Acrylic nails?
yes a massage chair is fine. They say the one thing to worry about when getting your nails done, is not a massage chair but the fumes that are in the nail salon, so you should make sure its not a stuffy salon, and is well ventalated. You could also ask them for one of those masks to wear over your mouth and nose, so you don't inhale the fumes for added protection. 10 wks pregnant and I want Acrylic nails?
honey, at no time ever should anyone get acrylic nails.
It is not safe to have acrylic nails put on during pregnancy. The chemicals have not been proven safe... unless it is an odorless kind and pretty much no one carries the odorless because it is too expensive and they lift too easy. As far as a pedicure do not shave your legs 24 hours before getting a pedicure... if you must get one... not all places are clean... you need to make sure they use pipe less tubs, which means there are no pipes running from the wall to the back of the chair... I would also ask them to not run the jets because if not cleaned properly contaminated water from the previous pedicure can still be in the jets just waiting to burst out into the clean water they fill the tub with. Do not let them use any minty oils or lotions on you because these are considered ';invigorating'; and can cause contractions. Make sure that when you sit down that they open a sterilized plastic bag (should be sealed not a zip lock baggie that can be reused) and pull the nail clippers and ANY instruments the use on you from that bag. Do not let them massage the back of your ankles either... good luck and use common sense...
The stuff they use for the acrylic nails is VERY unhealthy for the baby. The fumes can be inhaled, AND there is some carcinogenic chemical that they are not supposed to use, but some of them do anyway that would be absorbed into your skin.

The pedicure is safe, but if it is at the place that has acrylic nail fumes, then don't go there. Go someplace else that only does manicures/pedicures.
Please wait on the acrylic nails... You don't want to expose the fetus to unnecessary chemicals during the first trimester (through week 12) because that's when all of the vital organs are being formed. You don't want to risk birth defects!

Also, just call and ask your doctor what they think about the acrylic nails. They answer all sort of questions that you may think aren't important enough to ask.

I would assume that the pedicure and massage chair are just fine!
just ask them for one of those face masks or buy you a box from a drug store, and honestly that should be safe. i would wear 2..thats what I did!
Ask your doctor for sure. But, the massage chair is safe. Also a manicure is safe so long as the fumes aren't too strong. You could ask them for one of their dr's masks.
i go all the time and im pregnant and work at a hairsalon, go and relax....
I honestly think you'll be fine!

But if you have any concerns why not ask your doctor?

I think it's the fumes that the nail stuff gives off that isn't great for you. But a pedicure should be fine!

I have a gift certificate to my toes done and my doctor says that the massage is just fine!
I don't see why it wouldn't be safe.
as long as the chair isnt shaking you like crazy you should be fine, but please wear a face mask like they wear when you go in there. The fumes arnt good for a pregnant woman not even for a non pregnant woman- the fumes stink! lol good luck and you'll be fine!!!!
its fyn trust me it will help u relax
oooo a massage chair sound quite nice when your pregnant body is achy lol!

But im I'm sure its not wise when your only 10 weeks and your still in the early fragile state of pregnancy!

You could just explain to the women doing your pedicure that you would rather not have the massage chair on... and if you want to explain but u don't have to if you wished not to tell her why!

They are there to give you the service which you wish i dont see why it would be a problem not to have the massage chair off!

Congratulations!
Go enjoy yourself I have done it all through my pregnancy 2 years ago it's fine.
You will be fine and you will be relaxing and that is really good for you and the baby. As for if you are worried about the smell put a mask on and you will be perfectly fine
