What is so bad about getting acrylic nails?

my mom says that they are bad for your nails but i don't understand howWhat is so bad about getting acrylic nails?
it's really easy to go somewhere that might not do a quality job, and often the acrylic substance can be applied much too thick, which can affect the way your natural nail grows. my friend gets acrylics usually, but upon trying a new salon and getting them, then removing them a while later, she's left with gross dents all over her natural nails because they applied it so haphazardly. of course, though, these grow out on their own.

also, if you happen to bang your nail against something and the tiniest bit of air comes in between your natural nail and acrylic, getting moisture in there can cause a fungal infection that you won't even find out about until you get them removed. removing also weakens the nail because it takes a top layer of the natural nail off, no matter how carefully you try to avoid it.What is so bad about getting acrylic nails?
They don't rot your nails, I've had them twice. It's bad for them because when you take them off, you have to like peel them off and they take a layer off and make your nails really brittle and weak. That can be solved by taking the strengthening polish and putting a layer on. I will warn you it's kind of hard to get them off though, and your nails do get really weak and take a while to get back to normal.
layers of your natural nail are filed in order to apply the nails

If the nail gets ripped off, it pulls more layers of your natural nail

If water gets trapped between your natural nail and the artificial one fungus grows damaging your nails

Once you wear them for awhile it takes time for your natural nail to heal and the stripped layers to grow back

If the place doing them isn't sterilizing properly then they can give you an infection

If applied wrong or filed improperly skin can be cut by the electric drill
yeah, they don't breathe and become soft plus if you break them, they'll usually break thru your own nail and you'll get an infection. I was grating cheese once with a cheese grater and accidentally 'grated' my fake nail and it cut thru that and my own nail. there was a big cut and i couldn't take the fake nail off until the wound healed. I still love fake nails, tho, go figure! (love 'em but don't wear 'em, can't use with typing job)
i just think thats out it looks kind of trashi .. Its more about the natural nail look ... youd could buy funky colers and like a really good manicure for that polished look and paint them all cute .... the more pure and natural the better....
your nails need air so if they're covered up with glue and crap, they cant breathe, so they basically rot.

not good.

If you want fake nails, just get the tips done its alot better for your nails.
They peal off a layer of your skin, like the top layer. It hurts real bad if you unintentionally rip them off too.
They dry off your nails and they arent healthy
